Highlander Communications is now offering training for legal/court/immigration interpreting.

This 60 + 5 hour winter/spring 2023 course is being conducted via Zoom. It is approved by the NYS Department of Labor and is listed on the ETPL Provider Training Courses.

Description: This 60 + 5 hour zoom class covers the basics of interpreting in the legal field, highlighting legal consultations, immigration court, criminal, family, bankruptcy, traffic and more. The focus is the court system in the United States. Students will receive training on how to interpret in the above settings in telephonic, video and in-person interpreting. Besides procedures, students will learn the ethics of legal interpreting, basic terminology for each of the settings and, extensive practice in both consecutive and simultaneous modes.

Fifteen Sessions: Four hours each session on Zoom. Students are required to participate at all sessions. If they have a problem and cannot attend a session, they must schedule with the instructors to view the class which will be recorded and follow up with instructors after they have viewed it. Tuition: $750 USA dollars — ($700 if paid in full in advance of first class.)

If student pays in installments: $250 due by each of the following dates: Feb. 21, Mar. 14, Apr.4. Other options available upon request. Payments can be made by check, credit card, PayPal, Venmo, CashApp

Materials: Students will receive modules to a digital manual which they will download on a weekly basis during the course.

At the end of the training and successful completion of oral/written tests, candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Letter of Completion, detailing topics covered.
